Hello:

I was considering casting some pieces in bronze - I have a piece
already cast in silver of the same object. Here is my question will
the same piece cast in bronze weight more or less then the silver
object?

Less. The specific gravity of bronze is 8.8, while the SG of
sterling silver is 10.4. Fine silver is 10.6. Either way, the bronze
will be lighter. Roughly, for every 104 or 106 parts of silver,
you’ll need 88 parts of bronze, give or take.

Less, but how much less depends on what the formulation of the
bronze is.

Bronze typically has a specific gravity of 8.5, where as sterling
silver has a specific gravity of 10.3, so the same piece in bronze
will weigh about 20 % less. Stuller has a large selection of Bronze
and Brass casting alloys, as well as multiple Sterling Silver casting
alloys, including Argentium Silver.

The finished piece in Bronze will weigh less than the Sterling
Silver Piece.

The S.G. of Sterling Silver is 10.40. The S.G. of the Bronze will
be determined by the actual combination of metals but a good
estimate will be a S.G. somewhere between 9 and 10.

Hi DeDe,

It will weigh less in silver . A 10 gram piece in sterling will
weigh approx 8.8 grams in bronze/brass… We also cast in Bronze
/brass. (As well as many types of golds,Silver, Deox silver etc).
