Blood Red Gold?

I have had an inquiry about from a customer who saw some rings
online that boasted to be made of red gold. She said that it was
“blood red” in color. Is anyone aware of a gold alloy this color?

Thanks,
Joel

Some oxidized copper finishes might look like that, so might rose
golds in an online ad where the photographer either got the light
totally wrong, or was fooling with photoshop afterwards…

But other than that, My guess would be enamel.

hi Joel, you asked about red gold as used in manufacture of jeweler.
I too have seen ads like this. It just ain’t so. You can make a very
deep pink or rose colored gold by alloying gold with nothing but
copper. 14k can be an especially strong color. It won’t be red. 14k
pink is pretty rough to work with. If you want to take this further,
let me know directly.

Have fun.

The new red gold from Hoover is pretty darn red. But blood is still
not the adjective that leaps to mind to describe it. They were
touting it while I was on hold so I ordered some. It’s 18k and quite
a bit redder than what they were selling previously–
