[Biz Talk] Paypal

Hi, Walt -

Very glad to see the topic of internet security, especially how it
evolves. I remember my first (& only, so far) CC payment that went
by way of wireless/cell phone…made me wonder about the security,
–> was it an encrypted signal–> was it worth the bother [since the
vendor had to leave her booth unatttended to go where the signal was
good enough to get out]- etc. I’ve paid by cash & check since then.

Speaking as a purchaser, not a seller,

Point being, a good sales person never dismisses anyone.

Exactly right. I wouldn’t have had a problem with the salesman in
the bike showroom if he had merely included my husband in his
questions, but it was as though he just couldn’t cope with selling to
a woman. He was asking my husband questions like “is this your first
bike”, and my husband would direct him back to me saying “it’s not
for me, it’s for Helen”. Then again, turning back to my husband “what
are you riding at the moment?”. I was the one asking him questions
and made it clear from the start that it was me who was looking to
make a purchase. He was literally excluding me, the person who had
gone in there to actually buy a bike.

People can be so rude, but as I said, it teaches you a lesson and
can make you a better person for it.

I was the consumer in this case and I got the shaft. I sent the
product back becuase it was not as described. Paypal closed the case
and would not refund my money and I had returned the product. I had
all the documentation from the Post office. Here is what they sent
me.

The tracking you supplied is insufficient for us
to track the shipment of the merchandise;therefore,we are
unable to grant your appeal at this time. If any issues remain
unresolved, we encourage you to continue to work directly with
  the seller for further resolution.

That sounds like paypal. You have to file a claim withing so many
days or you are just sh-- out of luck. I have filled thre claim with
paypal - learned on the first one (lost 6.00, no biggie) 2nd won I
received 1/2 of claim back, 3rd one I did not return the merchandise
until I had filed a claim with paypal and let them do the work. Got
back my entire ependiture including the shipping and handling and
got to keep the ring also.

You do not state why you filed a claim but I assume you were not
happy with the quality or it was not exactly what you ordered. In
this case the ring may not have been worth the cost of recovering it
but you used the consumer protection aspect of the credit card law to
keep both your money and the ring. This doesn’t seem very fair to me,
how would you feel if you were the vendor and you lost both the work
and the money?

This is one reason why taking credit cards over the phone, internet
or by mail for a merchant is such a PITA.

We normally send a repalcement so the customer gets what they
originally ordered. This way the whole transaction is not a waste of
time.

When we suspect that this will be a problem customer we will refund
all the charges and put the block the customer form entering our
store
to purchase anything in the future.

A happy Paypal user.

As a Buyer always contact the vendor to claim for return or refund.
This way you can you will still be able to shop there for other
bargains or difficult to get items. As a Vendor think of Repeat
Business.

s. A transfer to a bank account takes 2-3 business days. Longer if
you request a check. I don't know how $30 a month plus the discount
rate compares to other processers. My eyes start to cross reading
the fine print and tallying all the other fees they can tack on.

It’s important to tally the fees. Call your processor and ask them
about all the fees:

–the discount fees
–the interchange fees (some banks don’t include these fees in with
the regular discount rate- these are tacked on for rewards cards,
etc…)
–per transaction fees
–monthly fees
–statement fees (sometimes there are statement fees on top of
monthly fees)
–is there a min you need to charge per month?

I wasn’t paying attention and when I looked back over my statements
Wells Fargo was charging me anywhere from 3.57%-6% depending on the
card. This was for V/MC!!!

Needless to say, I have since changed.

If you don’t pay attention you will get ripped off.

The thing you must realize as a merchant any card processor can
and will run a chargeback against you if you have a unsatisfied or
fraudulent customer. So it is part of your job as a merchant to
know your customers and insure that they are satisfied and to be on
the lookout for the frauds. Even then you will still sometimes get
stung but that is a part of the cost for doing business.

Yes, but if the chargeback was done in error- which has happened to
me a few times. Sometimes my stores get confused and don’t recognize
my name, or I’ll do a personal at a trade show and they’ll forget
they did it. People forget things, it happens.

But, if you can verify that the charge was valid and the customer
reverses the chargeback (which has happened each and every time) the
money should go back into your account asap. NOT 70 days!!! Also,
other companies are much easier to talk to and are more responsive
than pay pal.

I’ve had my run-ins with pay pal, similar to everyone else’s and I
think their rates are high.

Just my opinion.

Just remember that there are people who won't use PayPal, or
anything associated with it.

I am one of those people. So are 2/3 of my friends. We’ve all been
burnt.

You forgot to mention that the funds are available immediately after
the transaction is approved.

Wells Fargo was the same day. My current processor is 24-48 hrs- max.

Dunno what anyone else charges, but my regular bank (Chase)
charges me $10/month.

Wells charged $30. 1st national charges $7.50. I think anything
around
$10 is good, anything much over is too much. Does paypal have a
monthly charge?

Has anyone had any experience using Google Checkout for website
sales? I set up an account, but Google has such long complicated
instructions and examples for how easy they are too use that I gave
up and stuck with Paypal.

Occasionally, people prefer to send checks for sales off my site
instead of using credit cards. Sometimes they state that they won’t
use Paypal, and sometimes they flat out don’t like to order with
credit cards online through any shopping cart. I’m happy to oblige
however I can. (Rule #1 of customer service: Never make it difficult
for people to give you money!!!) Interestingly, the dislike of paypal
seems to be less of an issue for sales of my artwork than for DVD
sales (which are less expensive).

Thanks in advance,
Victoria
