Biggest ring size you have made?

What is the largest ring size that you have made for a customer? I
just got an order for a size 18 ring which is my largest to date. If
my calculations are correct the inside diameter is about 1.041".

Wellll, that would be in 1976, for one of the 49er’s. If I remember
correctly, it was a size 21.

Wait a minute, I do think that was a casting that I sized up,
finished and set. I suppose that doesn’t really qualify as making a
ring… but certainly does for sizing one.

Hello, to help us non-professional jewellers and other fellow
lurkers … OK so 21 is considered big - but what is average for male
and female. And what is the smallest ring size… for an adult or
older child. Thanks, Saffur

I know this thread is about finger size, but here was the largest
’item’ size I’ve done.

The largest ‘sizing’ I’ve done was for a stripper from a local bar,
called the Hiphugger. She had me cut to size, and solder a 14k chain
around her waist, so that it couldnt be removed from her without
cutting or breaking it. I don’t know what the ‘finished’ size was,
but we started with a 30" chain and I cut off about 5-6". So it was
about a size 24-25". Needless to say, my wife wasn’t to thrilled
about this job. Ed-Kokomo

Hi , i saw your reply on the chain around the waist and i ponder a
little - How did you Solder the Chain around her waist ? won’t the
heat reach the skin and burn her ?

well i anot questioning that you did it . but what i wanted to do a
few month back was to do a pcs of silver jewllery a RIng on a keychain
main of plastic and i had a hard time Soldering it together as the
plastic melt - that why i am ponderiong - maybe there is a trick or
two we all can learn from you

Largest men's, 21.5.
Largest ladies Engagement set, 14.5.

Most stock sizes are 10-10.5 for men and 6-6.5 for ladies. The
ladies sizes is not an average size. This size will allow most women
to try the ring on and in most cases only require that a ring be
sized down, which is often easier than sizing a ring up. My guess is
that the average size of a ladies left hand ring finger is going to
be between size five and six, but, I have made them as small as size
three. As for men? I regularly see men’s wedding bands anywhere from
size eight up to an eleven. there seems to be a far greater range
with men.

The smallest ring is not determined by a size per say but by what
fits. i have made rings that required the use of a bezel mandrel
instead of a ring mandrel. I didn’t know whether I should charge
them for making a ring or a jump ring.

That was relatively simple to do. Since the chain wasn’t skin tight,
there was plenty of space to tape an asbestos soldering pad between
the chain and her skin, to block the flame and residual heat.
Actually the asbestos pad wasn’t truly necessary, because the angle
of the flame was the most essential property of the entire scenario,
but it was merely just a way to guarantee that the woman wasn’t
burned by the flame. 1st I melted a dab of gold solder onto one end
of the chain, which she held in a pair of soldering tweezers, then I
held the other end up to meet the soldered end and reheated to join
them together. Oh, and by the way, she was dressed at the time ,in a
swim suit. Ed

Hi , Two stories about ring sizes . Largest ever was for an
Ex-Marine Corps Boxer his fingers were like summer sausages , never
did learn the size but you could rattle a half dollar coin inside
of the shank .

When I had the trade shop we once got a job to size a 1/4ct.
tiffany solitaire to ; well the 12 1/2 was crossed out and written
there was “as large as possible” so I made it a size 26 [ it looked
like a bangle braclet with a stone on top] I included a piece of
wire to size the finger if the 26 wasn’t large enough  , the
ring came back size to 13 , which is still the largest ladies ring
I’ve sized . The store did pay for both sizings too …]
