Bezel Problems

Hello. I am a beginning silversmith and have been having problems
lately with my bezels. I am using 28g fine silver and some of my
bezels have been looking chewed or crimped. I have adjusted the
height to allow for my stones and I don’t think height is the issue.
I’m wondering if I’m not using my tools correctly or am pushing too
hard. I’m mostly setting hard stones such as black onyx. Any help you
can give me is greatly appreciated.

Tammy, Height may be the answer after all if the bezel is still too
high. Otherwise I suggest using heavier bezel material. I like 22
or 24 ga., which leaves plenty of material to dress out
irregularities left from the setting process. Jerry in Kodiak
