Beginner's Project

I’ve seen students who feel very rewarded after completing the
task of constructing telescoped ring bands. Usually using
silver, they learn to size their ring, learn about soldering,
design possibilities for the overlay band which needs to be a
continuous pattern without a focal point and plan the ends to
meet so that the design flows smoothly. They learn how to
calculate the size of the overlay band that contains the design.
Then sawing the design, solder closed and then fit the bands
together and solder the rings together. (they could learn about
firescale before closing the seams) Apply liver of sulphur
solution to darken the design, and buff.

If you are interested and need more detail, I’ll be glad to
provide it.

Have fun, Frances.
