hi I am not a goldsmith but am interested in gold and all the
related on how to work with it I have welded braised
soldered common metals I have tried to work with gold and failed with
flying colors wanted to learn how to solder without melting the gold
I am trying to solder and how to build up gold on a existing piece
without melting it can you help me here?
I am not sure from your post which karat of gold you are working
from. I am self-taught and started out trying to solder 14k onto
sterling. The 14k has a much lower melting point and the results
were frustrating to say the least. 18k and silver solder together
better without the gold melting because the melting points are
similar.
