Balled pins as hinges

My method is different from those usually used, but it works for
me. I was taught to ball one end of the hinge with flame–making
the pin a bit extra long for the balling of the other end. the
unballed end piece is is then put in the rounded depression of your
draw plate ( which is securely mounted in your vise.). Select the
smallest hole in your draw plate, as you don’t want to poke
your wire though it. You just use the hole in the draw plate as a
dapping hole to form the head of the wire. Hammer the balled
end gently, and the other end–the one in the draw plate
depression, will form into a ball. This has always worked for me,
and gives me nice rounded ends on both sides. I also use this for
riviting. Hope this helps. Alma
