Ayr stones - Any Ideas?

Does anyone know of a source for Water of Ayr stones. I have
found it almost impossible to get them in the UK. Is there an
replacement, or does anyone have any ideas for an alternative?

G’day, Richard. I quote directly from the label on my Water
of Ayr Stone;

“Made in Scotland. The celebrated Scotch Tam O’ Shanter Hone
Used by the most eminent firms of Watch and Clock Manufacturers,
Lithographers,&etc, &etc…” It then goes on to tell one
that one will be prosecuted for infringments, mentions Gold
medals, and concludes "The Water of Ayr & Tam O’ Shanter Hone
Works Ltd. - but what it doesn’t say is where the Works is! I
bought mine from a jewellers supply company in Auckland New
Zealand, but to be honest, I think I prefer to use 400 to 600 to
1000 grit wet-and dry paper fastened to a stick. –
