I have attended Adult Night school in the Philadelphia area for
jewelry. Having attended the beginners jewelry class numerous
times I have not been able to get advanced instruction. I have
incorporated gems/stones into either pendants, earrings and done
reticulation. I’m looking to learn other techniques and improve
upon my finishing technique/knowledge.
I have moved from Philadelphia, PA a year ago to Jacksonville, FL
but have been unsuccessful in finding jewelry classes in the local
area.
I would like to move to the Arizona area but have been searching the
Phoenix area for jewelry instruction. I come across the local
colleges of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Yavapai
College in Prescott, Eastern Arizona Uinversity in Tucson. However
in my endeavors of researching the internet for community/art
centers in the Arizona area and I had come across your website.
I was wondering if anyone could take some time out of their busy
schedule to help assist a new jeweler in locating further studies in
jewelry/silversmithing.
Presently,I am not looking for workshops. I find they are generally
a few hours for one or two days. I have been informed about the
Mesa, Glendale and Phoenix city recreation centers however the
classes are held during the day time.
Would anyone know of any art centers other than the colleges in the
Arizona area? (Perhaps the classes run for approx 3 hrs, one night a
week, for 8 - 10 weeks.
Does the high school district have any Adult Night School curriculum
that teaches jewelry?
Which colleges in Arizona could you recommend that has the best
comprehensive classes to learn in a relatively short period of time?
I plan to eventually sell my pieces (hobbyist/entrepreneur).
I live in Tucson and the program at the UofA was cancelled a few
years ago their is still a program at pima college and there is one
at randolpf parks and rec. I think the old pueblo lapidary club
teaches as well.

graver, we welcome your education experience.
We have a wonderful school called Metal’s Edge which is located in
Scottsdale. There are ongoing day and night classes in
metalsmithing/jewelry and glass fusing and bead making. Easy
location, right off the freeway and GREAT energy.

I have also attended Stewart’s International School for Jewelers
many years ago. I took the Advance Diamond Setting Class where I
learn how to do Reverse Bead Setting. It is great for setting
stones in the eyes of my brooches that I create of dogs.
