Argentium silver

Hi Janet, I’ve been using argentium silver, and really like it.
(There was a limited supply for members of the Society of American
Silversmiths for a while.) Stern Leach is currently working on it,
and hopes to have it on the market here in a few months. Currently,
one needs to order it from Thessco, in England (slow and expensive
shipping).

I really like its working properties, as well as the firescale and
tarnish resistance. It is wonderfully ductile for fold forming and
die forming. I had trouble with deep drawing it, but I’m told by the
man who developed it, Peter Johns, that it was because the material I
had was from and experimental lot made in Finland. So, personally, I
am waiting anxiously for it to be available here in sheet and wire
form! I think it’s great stuff!
