American metalcraft equipment

So…anyone thinking of buying all the American Metalcraft equipment
and going into business?

Karen

I didn’t know they were for sale. Does anyone know the scope of the
equipment and supplies and what about the kitchen division? I have
been a customer of theirs for years.

Many of us who have been buyers from American Metalcraft for years
got a letter last week telling us they were closing down their
"craft" line. It is, and has always been, a very small part of their
business. They basically don’t want to deal with it anymore and are
offering to sell all the equipment. It’s a huge problem as they also
supply most of the people who sell copper shapes for enameling in the
US, possibly internationally.

Their customer service was poor, the quality control not great but
it’s not like there were a lot of other places to go.

I’m really hoping that somebody who already has a business like
Coral, or Joan S. or Thompson or Metalliferous will step in.

I am not familiar with this. What is it you need? Maybe post some
pictures.

This is very bad news, indeed. Please keep us posted on who might
take up this slack. To not have access to the variety of shapes for
enamelwork just sets one more roadblock in the road towards
successful projects.

Hi Dan,

I need a supplier of precut and formed copper pieces so I don’t have
to start making and cutting all my own!

I know, I can do it. It just means I’m working at a higher price
point. Thompson Enamel does some of this but doesn’t spin bowls or do
quantities of stamped shapes. I don’t use their goofier animal shapes
etc. I do use their domed circles and ovals though, I would really
prefer not to have to make them myself and will probably stop using
those shapes instead.

This is the type of work we routinely do. I did some research on
American Metalcraft and suspect they are leaving the business
(copper craft only) because they are faced with a price increase that
could top 100%, though probably more like 75%, and they don’t want
the extra carrying charges from a slower sales rate. They could be
increasing prices by 150% with the next 18 months, because sales
won’t match their production rates. This is too bad. I will be able
to supply some similar product by 2nd quarter next year. I’ll post
to Orchid when ready.

We are going to get more of that. That is an unavoidable consequence
of budget deficit that we are running. I myself will be increasing
prices for my DVDs. So if anybody was delaying for one or another
reason, the current prices will be effective till December 31 of
this year.
