Rio was out of Castaldo mold release on my last shipment so I am looking for a safe alternative so I don’t have to pay for shipping twice. I saw a post in the forum from CASTALDO that said some sprays contain a propellant that dissolves the mold and I don’t want to do that. Would a silicone lube that doesn’t use a propellant work without damaging the mold? I googled “silicone lube” and Astroglide and other alternate lubes came up that are safe for humans. Do you think a silicone lube that is non propelled for human use will work? If not, has anyone found a household item or an alternate I can pick up at Walmart or Hobby Lobby. Trying to avoid another shipping charge by ordering one from a Jewelry supply house?
When I have a difficult mold or I run out of Silicone I use cornstarch. Yes it’s can be messy but it works, especially when nothing else works. I have a bottom part of a old sock with a 1/4 cup of cornstarch in it , couple taps on the mold to lightly coat and boom! It works every time. Just rinse the wax off with water and done. If nothing else works it’s been my goto for years.

We use talcum/ bath powder. We place it in a scrap of cotton cloth and tie up the ends of the cloth with string to make the cloth a ball. Then we lightly tap the insides of the mold with it.
Way less expensive than silicone mold release.
The only time we use the silicone spray is when we need to heat up an engagement ring into carving wax to make a shadow band that fits the ring.
