I’m in the process of setting up my workshop again after many years
out of the trade, and although I still have most of my tools, I seem
to have lost my agate pestle and mortar. Does anyone know of where I
can find one in the UK?

Hello Jon,

I don’t know a UK source but Fischer in Germany
(www.fischer-pforzheim.de) sells them. In my 2004 catalogue the item
number is 5512 (p. 154, 37.35 Euros).

G’day; almost any supplier of lab equipment in the UK will be able
to sell you one - or more!

You might try an enamel supplier. They carry them here in the US.

Thanks, John. I did find a couple of scientific suppliers after I
asked the question, but the prices they charge are wild. For example,
a 4" OD set from Cole Parmer:

is a mere $368 + VAT!

I’ve found one on ebay from a US supplier of roughly the same size
that has cost me $70, including shipping. I’ve no idea what the
quality will be like, but at that price I’m prepared to take a
gamble.

Alana, I did look at all the enamel suppliers I could find in the
UK, but all of them seem only to stock porcelain sets.
