Hi,
i am in need of advice on how to successfully use bristle brushes for polishing with my flex shaft…
i have hard (black), medium (brown), and soft (white) bristle brushes…and same for end brushes…
my issues appear to be:
the polishing compound cakes onto the surface of the piece…
i have a hard time “loading the brushes” with compound…(greystar, or picasso blue)
i have tried going slow…medium…fast…
i cannot seem to figure it out…
too much compound? not enough?
wrong speed? wrong pressure?
going crazy

For me what works best with bristle brushes is to use a non-water base compound. I think the older style buffing compounds use a petroleum/waxy binder. Those compounds work best for me. Faster speeds and more downward pressure also helps me. The process becomes easier as the piece gets warmer and helps to melt the buffing compound binder.
You are correct that the brushes don’t hold much compound, so you have to reapply it more frequently than with cotton buffs.
I’ve never tried this, but it might help. Wearing gloves and warming up the piece a little bit with a hair dryer or a heat gun might be useful.
Let’s see what others suggest. Thanks Julie!!
