Wouldn’t that be using aqua regia? Scary stuff that. CIA

You might want to look into electric etching with salt solutions.
I’ve not played with it but I think you can etch almost any metal
with the right solution and resist.

As mentioned above aqua Regia is a gold etchant

starting point…

voltage require would be fairly low. around 1 volt or so off the top
of my head - but then it’s decades since I looked at electropotential
tables.
