A "final" word on Art vs Craft

I rarely get involved in the recurring discussions about Art vs
Craft. My attitude has always been: I do what I do – call it what
you like and I’ll do the same :-).

But I just finished reading a hilarious and wise article on the
subject in the May 2006 issue of Lapidary Journal and I must
recommend it to everyone who hasn’t yet read it. The title is, “You
Don’t Think This Is Art, Do You?” and it’s subtitled, “A picaresque
riff on the personal side of the art/craft debate, with suggested
internet activities.” The author, Larry Scott, is a self-proclaimed
(and very accomplished) beadmaker; he’s also a wit and a very
entertaining writer! I grinned all the way from beginning to end.

On a side note, I know a number of Orchidians gave up on Lapidary
Journal several months ago. I just want to say that since the last
discussion here about it, I’ve seen a noticeable improvement in the
magazine. There’s been an increase in metalsmithing content and a lot
more “eye candy”. For those of you who stopped subscribing, at least
check it out on the newsstand. You might be pleasantly surprised.
