'60s Slave ring

I have had customers asking for a style of ring that I knew as a
slave ring waaaay back in the sixties and early seventies. It is a
ring that is made up of two "V"s joined at their bottoms to create a
ring with four points on it. I have been asked about how it came to
be called a slave ring and I have no idea and an internet search
seemed to not lead me in the right direction. Does anybody here know
about this ring and it’s origin and why it was called a slave ring?
I think that my customers like the style but are concerned that they
do not offend anyone.

Any or a lead to the right source of would
be appreciated.

Thank you.

Do you perhaps mean an “African wedding band”?

The ring pictured is a design worn in Inda as a toe ring.
