24k Gold Foil - Hallmarking

Should jewelry with gold foil be hallmarked? Or should it NOT be hallmarked?

It is very lightweight, not even as thick as the foil used in keum-boo. So I don’t think it has to be, but should it be?

Thanks!

If it’s for sale in the UK, and is described as precious metal, then it has to be hallmarked by law if above a certain minimum weight (about 7g I think). Any plating or leafing with gold would be ignored, it’s the base metal that counts, which I assume is silver. So it would be hallmarked with the appropriate silver mark.

Elsewhere, I don’t know.

Thank you, that makes total sense.
