[2005 Tucson] Orchid Silent Auction

Hi All,

The big white tents are down, the visiting jewelry people are gone,
Hanuman and Ton are back in Bangkok, and I’ve bought the last tool
and gem stone I just had to have but did’nt need. It is now time for
me to close out the last of the 2005 Tucson Orchid Silent Auction and
to thank everyone who participated by donating, bidding, and/or
working on the event. Each year in January it feels as if it is not
going to happen, but every year the good Orchidins come through and
in February it somehow comes together. I’m happy to let you know
that this year we netted just over $5000—up from last year—but
not as good as it will be next year!!

A number of donators asked me “who won what I donated?” so I am
listing the donators and then the people who were the highest
bidders. Again, I want to remind all of you to support our donators
whenever possible. That is the best thank you we can give.

I also want to thank Dee Mano, Brooke Miner, Roseann Hanson, and
Virginia Vivier for hepling me with the Silent Auction.

I hope to see you again next year in Tucson or perhaps one of the
other regional events between now and then.

Pat Glover

Hello Pat,

I was disappointed not to get the final bid on some of the tools
from Steve Satow and Miland - someone distracted me! Never the
less, the real thanks go to YOU and your hard-working committee who
managed the Orchid dinner and the silent auction. Great books,
tools, obj’de art, tools, stones, tools, subscriptions… did I say
tools?? Don’t want to forget the cool tools.

Here’s what went down: A really deserving Susan won the raffle. I
got to visit with industry folk (will be trying the Pt/silver), and
actually met Michael David Sturlin who makes those incredible
crocheted chains. It was wonderful to see Judy Hoch, Loren Damewood
(loved your chainmail), Dan Grandi, Terri Masters, Cynthia Eid,
Hanuman, Ton, Charles, Alan R., Andrea Hill, Karen K., Jerry H.(from
AK), Linda, Kenneth, and the list goes on. Must not forget the
youngest Orchidian there, Steve Satow’s daughter, Stephanie (Shees,
I hope I got the name correct!)… anyway she’s a lovely young woman

  • better keep your shotgun handy, Steve.

A wonderful gathering. I hope I make the next one!!!

Thanks again Pat,

Judy in Kansas

Pat -

Thanks so much for posting that list. Especially nice for those of
us who couldn’t be there.

I’m curious about that Cut-I-Pi Saw donated by John Flynn. I’ve
been Googling, but I can’t find anything about it.

Linda

Linda, The Cuti-Pi saw was designed by the now deceased husband of
Sandy Taylor. They usually demonstrated it at Alpha Supply as well
as Rock and Mineral Clubs around the South West area.

You may find it by looking under Taylor Manufacturing. I did see
Sandy at Alpha and will be in direct contact with her here in So.
California. He named it Cuti-Pi for her.

It is a fantastic saw.

Thanks for the info and the story. Whenever I google the saw, all I
get are the hits here on Orchid where the saw was mentioned. If you
do see Sandy, and you happen to think of it, would you ask her if
there’s a Web site or maybe even a supplier. Are they even still
being made?

Thanks,
Linda
