14K SLC Hallmark

Please forgive me if this is a dumb question, but here goes: My
daughter found a small hollow hoop earring in a parking lot. It had
obvoiusly been there for a long time; bent, filthy and was mostly
squashed flat, probably run over by a car(s). It looks like gold. The
only marking on it is on the ear wire, where it is stamped “14K SLC”.
The 14K is pretty self-explanitory (I think…) but any idea what
"SLC" means? Is is secret code for “plated” or something like that?

Thanks,
AL

It’s probably a maker’s mark.
