1/5/2008 I'm a rank beginner who plans to become a serious full-time hobbiest. Fifteen years ago I purchased Oppi Untractht's "Jewelry, Concepts and Technology" and now I plan to focus on this interest. Commercial success is not my primary goal. My hope is to produce silver jewelry that I am proud of. I am very much influenced by the great traditions established by Mexican and Scandinavian silversmiths during the last century. My first step is to begin my eduation and I'm looking for advice on how/where to study. I am currenly living in New York City, but I can relocate anywhere in North, Central or South America. I want to learn classic techniques, but I'm quite computer literate so I also want to consider studying CAD for design accuracy. I have appropriate hardware, software will be the only consideration. I am only now beginning to look into my options so any advice concerning all avenues (formal education, apprentiship programs, web classes, etc.) will be gratefully received. I am able to finance my move, classes and most of the equipment I will need to set up the humble workshop a beginner will require.
