I'm a jeweler by education. I dabble in smithing of the gold, silver, and black varieties (my father is a blacksmith). I worked as a commercial lapidary for a while. I have one of those fancy GIA certifications. Also, I've taught lampwork glass working (both borosilicate and soda lime) at several schools across the United States.
