I mainily work in silver, with a bit of gold now and then. I like to do my own lapidary work, to be able to control the creation from start to finish. This has made me really appreciate the talents of those that do gem design/cutting/finishing. My experience with jewelry was started when I met an elderly gentleman, Mr. Vernon MacNiel, who was an accomplished goldsmith. He became my friend and mentor concerning silver work. I have since built a small workshop where I enjoy creating one of a kind pieces of jewelry.
