I am based in England and I have over forty years experience as a goldsmith. In this time I served an indentured apprenticeship with a master goldsmith in the West End of London, working mainly for the Garrard the Crown Jewellers, manufacturing The Queen's Orders of Chivalry and many items of Civic Regalia. After six years I finished my apprenticeship and gained the Freedom of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths along with the Freedom of the City of London. I have worked at the bench alongside some of our country's major craftsmen, expanding my knowledge and developing my skills. In 1985 I started my own company James Miller Design as I wanted to manufacture more of my own designs, also at this time I was made a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths. My designs and finished pieces are all unique and make use of skills that include traditional manufacturing techniques which have changed very little over centuries. Much of my work is greatly influenced by the Russian master goldsmiths using representations of flora and fauna made from 18ct coloured golds as objets d'art. All my objects are formed by hand from sheet and wires, the smaller items are manufactured from 18ct coloured golds with the use of enamels, precious stones and lapidary adding colour and realism to the finished articles. I do not have a website at this date but I am included on the Goldsmiths Directory website :- www.whoswhoingoldandsilver.com where a selection of my original creations can be seen, listed under the designer maker section under my name:-James Miller FIPG. Some of my work can also be seen on the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths website www.ipgold.org.uk
