After I retired I had lots of time on my hands, so I investigated local activities and found classes in lapidary at the local community college. I have always loved rocks so it seemed a great idea. Then I had all these cabochons, naturally, they had to be set. So I took silversmithing classes. And the rest, as they say, is history. I have been silversmithing for almost five years. I sold my jewelry for several years at the local swap meet. Now I am working on selling online. I love to learn new techniques. I am particularly drawn to moving metal, whether it be with a hammer or a graver. I love piercing too. I have just started to learn how to flame enamel. When I started silversmithing I could barely use a screwdriver, now I have two double tool chests, a studio full of machines, and - well you all know about this. I have yet to find my “style” and think that is because I still have a lot to learn. Right now I focus on art jewelry, primarily southwestern with some more modern designs thrown in. I cab most of my own material, and as I have 700 pounds of turquoise, I have a lot to choose from. I sell my jewelry, my cabochons, and rough turquoise.
