I had a full on cabinet making woodshop and was fairly proficient building tables and smaller pieces of furniture. I also made many items on a wood lathe-- bowls, lidded boxes, etc. I developed a severe contact allergy to many of the hardwoods I enjoyed using, so I sold everything and abandoned the craft. After a couple of years I was looking for another craft to satisfy my urge to create. After many pandemic-spawned hours on you tube, I decided to try jewelry making. Several months and scores of 10 hour days (where does the time go?) later, I have a pretty well set up jewelry making shop. I’ve made many rings, earrings, pendants and bangles, many with faceted or cabochon stones. My weak point seems to be flush setting faceted stones where I have about a 60% success rate.
