Akiko Momiyama Tokyo Japan After thirteen years’ career as a neuroscientist, I’ve switched to learn goldsmithing and jewellery making, starting with short courses at Hiko-Mizuno Jewellery College in 2003-2005. My interest gradually shifted from making ordinary pieces to attempts that require long-term researches and experiments. Finding the striking similarity in the creative process of science and art/craft continues to turn me on to my challenges. Based on the technique of ultrafine wire drawing I learned from Giovanni Corvaja, my works presently focus on combining textile techniques with goldsmithing, to realise unexpected characters in pieces made of solid precious metal.
