Workshops in Chicago

Hi Everyone!

I am seeing there are a lot of workshops in New York coming up. Does
anyone know of some in Chicago? I live close by and it would be easy
for me to get to.

Thanks a lot!

Is there anything specific you are looking for?

Depending on what you want there is a strong group out of Milwaukee
called WDCC that does several events a year with well known people
like metalsmiths and Bruce Baker. We also have an enameling guild
that meets near Milwaukee and bring in well known enamellists a
couple of times a year.

It’s only about 1 1/2 hours from the Western Suburbs of Chicago

Check these websites for classes:

and the Chicago Metal Arts Guild has an etching workshop coming up.

There are also more options if you are in the suburbs - too many to
list. If you let me know where you are/are willing to travel and what
you want to learn I can make more suggestions.

Colleges that offer metals: Loyola, Columbia, Governor’s State, some
community colleges.

If you can travel for a weekend workshop:

Hi Elaine and Karen-

Thanks so much for reponding to my Chicago workshop question. I am
in Chesterton Indiana which is about 45 minutes (depending on
traffic!) outside Chicago. I prefer to take the train in usually. So
I hang around downtown when I go, but something in the suburbs would
work too. What I’d really love to learn is photoetching. If you hear
of anything, please let me know!

Take care and thanks again, Steph

Stephanie,

On Saturday, April 12, Chicago Metal Arts Guild is holding an
Etching on Metal workshop. It will cover several methods of surface
treatments, including photo etching.

It will be held at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake, Illinois.
The college can be reached by car or by Metra. Directions are
available after registration.

If you are interested, please contact me off-list, and I will be
glad to give you the name of a contact person.
