days, you’ll learn how to promote, advertise and market your
business. Expand your possibilities with hands-on projects such as:
write a press release, artist’s statement, collection statement;
organize a press kit. Discuss your image (or lack thereof) and ways
to get free publicity. Oodles of tips, hints, examples, handouts,
and exercises will help you determine and achieve goals, and look
professional.
Marlene Richey’s book Profiting by Design is being released this
fall. She was co-owner of William Richey Designs, a 28 year old
wholesale jewelry design firm/retail gallery. Her articles appeared
in AJM, Niche, JQ and Rescue magazines. Marlene served on the boards
of the Art Business Institute, Maine Craft Association, Portland
Arts and Cultural Association and Contemporary Design Group. Marlene
has juried industry shows and participates on panels on promoting
designer jewelry. She taught “Art as Business” at Maine College of
Art and Designer Day at the MJSA Expo.
