[Workshop] Chasing and Repousse at The Rubin Museum of Art

The Art of Chasing
Start Time: 2:00 pm End Time: 4:00 pm
Category: Talks and Workshops

Description:
Bulgarian-born and trained Master Goldsmith Valentin Yotkov gives a
chasing and repousse demonstration very similar to the style used on
a number of pieces on display in the Tibet exhibition. Chasing and
repousse are hammering techniques aimed at producing a pattern in
relief in metal.

Valentin studied with the finest European artisans and has brought a
wealth of knowledge, talent, and passion for this art form to the
United States. At the age of 22, he became the youngest member ever
in the history of the national silversmiths Guild of Bulgaria to be
granted the title of Master. Founding the Valentin Yotkov studio in
Brooklyn, New York in 1994 has allowed him to share this technique
with other artists, including members of the Tiffany & Co’s
silverware department. This studio is the only school in the United
States specializing in chasing and repousse instruction.

Wow! I wish I could have stayed a few more days after the MJSA show
for this!! We went to the beautiful new Rubin Museum of Art, in New
York City, last Saturday. We walked into the museum, and were greeted
by live sitar/tablas music. The Rubin’s collection if Tibetan art is
stunning, I’ll be back to visit it many more times, as this work is
the kind to be savored.

Valentin’s work is amazing, he is the extremely respected teacher
and Master of Chasing and Repousse. So, if you can make it to his
demo- you are in for a double treat!!!

Have a delightful day!
