Winter storage

I have a she shed which is unheated. As winter gets closer i was wondering if i should put my files, wires, sheet metal and pliers etc into my garage which if heated…thanks

Need advise- storing steel forming tools

I keep my most precious steel tools like bezel blocks, dapping block and punches, etc. in lightly oil soaked rags in a big metal tool box. That seems to work well for me in my not very air tight New England studio (which is a shed) in the mid of winter and summer humidity. To be honest, I’m surprised that such a simple system works so well, but it does.

An alternative is a plastic bin with some silica gel (dehydrator) in it. It is condensation, not cold per se, that inflicts rust. If things stay truly cold, the air is dry. Temperature cycles are the problem. Heated is better
