Thanks for the explanation! That makes sense.
When I’m soldering a chain necklace, I use a third-hand to hold the link I’m soldering and let the other links dangle. The tweezers work well as a heat-sink.

hmm,…I was just thinking…I saw that you mentioned not preferring a mechanical solution…but…would it work for you to thread the snake chain through the flower and then perhaps ball up the end of the chain, (or fuse/ solder an tiny ball to the end of the chain), and then pull it back into the flower…? (avoid the heat sink…) may add a bit of movement/ articulation to the flower…not sure if you want than…just thinking…
