What Gerson hammers used for?

#1

I got a sales e-mail from a company that had Gerson style hammers
for sale.

I can’t find any info on what they’re used for. How do you use a
hammer like this? Do you hit it with another hammer, or do you
actually strike with the side of the head?

I have several wooden versions of this type of hammer. I use them to
hit wood and stone carving chisels. It allows you to not worry about
whether your striking the chisel with the face of the hammer. No
matter what the chisel angel is, it always strikes perfectly. In
this way you can keep your eyes on the work. Seems like it would
graze off, but it doesn’t.
