E. Hampstead, NH. USA

I’m a mostly self-taught jeweler with a strong background in the
fine arts. I also write about it, mostly how-to articles for
magazines. I’m currently working on a couple of books on making
medieval and renaissance jewelry in as authentic a manner as
possible, but using modern equipment and methods. Best known for
making crowns, tiaras and such. I do wax carving. Fabricating
miniature objects has always been fun. Chasing and repousse, sinking
and raising (mostly chalices, spoons & bowls), wirework, and boxwork
are specialties. I like making things which are a challenge or open
and close or have something special, such as necklace bottles in
sterling (some in the shape of something) and pomanders with chased
and repoussed surfaces.

Charles Francis Funnell
Cobourg, Ontario. Canada

Well first of all my computer skills and knowledge of the internet
and what is out there is very limited. I have a BFA and a BEd and am
a certified gemmologist (though I think I have forgotten half of
what I learned). This last year has been eventful as I entered the
"Saul Bell Design Award Competition" and won 1st place in the
Hollowware Category. The whole experience has been a huge learning
curve and full of moments of complete shock! I am also currently part
of a 4 person exhibition at Obsidian Gallery in Tucson, Arizona
(closing October 12,08) called “Collected Metal”. It is a thrill to
be exhibiting there! Other than that I am also working on a piece for
an exhibition honouring Lois Etherington Betteridge to be held in
November in London, Ontario. She was my first silversmithing teacher
and continues to be a huge inspiration for me! I also recently spent
two amazing years at the Ne w Brunswick College of Craft and Design
studying under the enthusiastic tutelege of Brigitte Clavette!

Cohoes, USA,

I am a beginning jewelry maker, have done lots of beading and am now
concentrating on learning about, well, everything. Have taken a
metalsmithing class and am experimenting with resin, silver clay and
other materials. I mostly work at the moment with vintage glass and
brass, doing a little fabrication and wire work. My goal is to make
pieces that tell stories, whimsical and organic, and to improve my

I am a jewelry artist and currently teach jewelry and metalsmithing
at a community college.

Tamsin Jane Allen
Duffy, ACT. Australia

I am a mainly self-taught amateur silversmith of about three years
who enjoys experimenting with a wide range of materials and
techniques. I have recently discovered the delights of precious metal
clay, but I still enjoy more traditional metalwork. Generally I make
jewellery and objects for myself, friends and family, although I have
sold some items for a pittance! Down the track I hope to pursue some
proper training/qualifications in design and silversmithing, and
potentially start a silverware business.
