I have over 25 years of experience as a bench jeweler. Most of that

manufacturer.

I am a retired plumbing and heating engineer, I have made jewellery
for as long as I can remember, although I had a long time out when
the kids came along, and then went to uin. etc. So its only in the
last 10/15 years that I have been making silver items and setting

Victoria A Markham
Scunthorpe, UK

At the beginning of this year I turned a passion into a business,
creating Silver Orb…

My love of working with metal was sparked at 16 when my uncle, a
master goldsmith took me under his wing and started to give me the
tools and skills needed. Our own family history includes a Norman
sword-maker for royalty and a coppersmith, so I quietly like to
believe I’m continuing a family tradition.

My own background in Archaeology gives me a good grounding for the
the many styles, materials and symbolism behind jewellery. I believe
humans have reflected nature and ourselves through this craft since
the beginning.

My own work often uses beautiful and unusual gemstones such as
boulder opals and fossils as the initial inspiration. I use
techniques such as reticulation and melting to produce organic
textures, enjoying the mystery of these methods.

Although I have created a wide range of pieces through commissions,
my personal tastes include textured metal, elegant lines, unusual
stones, sustainable and durable pieces. I like to create work that
becomes a signature piece to the wearer, provoking emotional and
sentimental responses.

At the age of 30 I feel that I am at the beginning of understanding
this craft and look forward to the years of creativity ahead.
