I’ve only been wire wrapping since June and know I have so much to
learn! Hope to begin to make my own cabs at some point.

Retired and currently back in college!

Hi, I’m a young alchimista eager to experiment with new materials
and apply traditional jewelry techniques in new ways to express my
own creative language.

I am a student of fine metals at Evergreen State College in Olympia,
Wa. I am very interested in chasing and repousse right now.

I have been making jewelry for over 40 years now and love it for all
it’s diversity and challenges. I own a retail store in Harbor Springs
Michigan where my son Adam Garret works with me as a partner.
Previous to this I lived in Santa Fe New Mexico where I consigned my
jewelry to stores there and all nearby states in the desert
southwest. My styles of jewelry making are many and I often work in
themes or build collections. For the most part, I work in silver and
gold but we are adding other metals as well including palladium and
stainless to our lines. I use fabrication and lost wax casting as my
methods for making jewelry. I doubt I’ll ever fully retire unless I
can no longer physically work, but I love painting as well and would
like to do more in the coming years.

Arriving in the jewellery making world a little later in life, my
work is predominantly in silver, often textured and patinated. I
sometimes highlight in gold and use gemstones to provide colour and
contrast. More recently, my designs have a quirky “storyline” which I
add as text for the viewer to read when they look at the piece - I
love to elicit a smile! I improve my skills by avidly reading both
books and internet articles and when I need a little more help, I
attend short intensive courses.
