Been in this industry for over 20 years and I’m still hungry to

Flemington, NJ. USA
I am a self-taught jeweler and enamelist.
Growing up in an artistic family, I had strong support for my
creativity and an ample supply of modeling clay, paper and paints.
Spending years exploring the woods and my parents?? garden, I
developed a keen appreciation for the incredible diversity of
During my career as a research scientist, I always pursued my
passion for creating beautiful objects. I took classes in ceramics,
metal work, enameling, Precious Metal Clay and Jewelry Design at
DuCret School of Art.
In 2012, I opened Small Joys Studio in Flemington, NJ where I create
one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces in metal, enamels, beads

After 30 years as a designer, specializing in Corporate Cafeterias
and Healthcare [Hospital Kitchens and Cafeterias etc], I decided I’d
"been there, and got the T-shirt" and wanted to look into other
passions, so in 2008 I stopped taking on any new projects and
completed my last project in 2011 and in July of 2011 I closed my
business and retired, so I could ‘play with my toys’. I’ve got lots
of other interests, singing and photography to name a few, but
jewelry design seems to answer my need to still design things.
In the past as a designer however, I just made AutoCAD drawings and
specifications and someone else had to build whatever I designed. I
didn’t build or fabricate anything myself…now that I’m doing
my own fabrication [GASP] I realize how difficult it is, and how
easy it is to screw up someth ing you’ve been working on.
So now, I’m reading books and the web, and watching YouTube videos
on fabrication and taking some classes on everything related to
jewelry under the sun… which is why my range of questions must
seem a little schizophrenic
I’m interested in learning how to craft jewelry.

I am a young jeweler, and recent graduate of a metals program of a
fine arts school in Philadelphia. Originally from New Jersey, I am
now living and working in Brooklyn, NY, hoping to learn something
that may help me with metalworking here on Ganoksin.
