Steve L Shearin
Saginaw, TX. USA

Hello,

My name is Steve and I am a beginning silversmith although I have
been doing lapadairy work for 20 years. I grew up in Navajo country
living in Window Rock and Gallup and have a great appreciation for
thier art forms as well as Zuni and Hopi art forms. I live in Fort
Worth now and my interest in making Navajo style jewelry was
rekindled by another member of this forum, John Barton, who joined
our Rockhound/Jewelry Making club recently. I love to combine Navajo
style jewelry with non-traditional and unusual semi-precious stones
and look forward to making some interesting art in the future.
Although this is my primary area of interest I have a wide ranging
background and interest in all forms of jewelry making, precious and
semi-precious materials, and have done extensive travel to acquire
these where they occur in nature (primarily in the Western USA) but
also in North Africa, East ern Europe, and SE Asia. I look forward to
sharing experiences and good chat with fellow enthusiasts.

Cheers, Steve

I seem to always end up at this site when I’m researching how to do
a new technique for me. So today. I decided to jump in and join. I
work primarily with Argentium Sterling Silver, with cabochons and
faceted stone settings.

Nelson, New Zealand

I returned to New Zealand in 2005 after spending 27 years in London
UK, abandoning my scientific career. While in London, I acquired a
diploma in jewellery design and silversmithing from the Sir John
Cass School of Art. Now that I have made Nelson my home, I have been
able to set up a small jewellery workshop to hone and practice those
skills I was taught so long ago. As time goes on I wish to learn
more, however, there are few jewellery schools here, mainly in the
North Island, and as such, I have to resort to books and the
internet. I have found Ganoksin to be an invaluable source of much
needed Thankyou to all.

New to metalsmithing and trying to absorb and learn as much as I
can. So far, I am having a blast watching the videos and looking at
all the beautiful work that this site has to offer.
