Hi,

I’m about as new to this as you can get.

At this point, jewelry is a hobby for me but is something I would
like to take to the next level. I’m working with beads, chainmaille
and wire wrapping right now but I would like to learn about things
like casting, soldering/welding, gemology, settings, repairs and
anything else I can pickup.

Right now, I’m still trying to set up an area to work in besides my
computer desk so if anyone has any suggestions as to what part of
the forums I can head to, I would appreciate the help.

Hopefully I won’t be too much of a bother.

Thanks,
Frank

I use golds, sterling silver, pearls of all varieties and precious
gemstones to create neckpieces, earrings, bracelets, rings and
pendants. Sometimes pearls and gemstones are combined in a sterling
or gold pendant, for instance. Styles are organic, free-flowing yet
balanced, sometimes whimsical, so metimes harder-edged. I love
texture, slight curves in many planes, hidden or secret elements
(i.e. La Cage aux Folles is an off-round ball with various-sized
holes, a pendant, containing a rather large, naturally coloured
baroque pearl; edges are worked inwards so that pearl cannot fall
out); Inside/Outside is an 18k element, folded, worked so that tiny
pearls could be threaded inside. It was used as the central bead in
a pearl neckpiece.

I enjoy creating and crafting objects of both use and beauty. I’m an
avid blacksmith. I also make a lot of leather goods. I really enjoy
casting. Both large and small and find a particular enjoyment in
mold making. I’d like to make more jewelry based crafts in the
future and mix my iron work into that as well. All in all I just like
using my hands to create. Thanks.
