When I started making chains from 14K gold and silver I didn’t have
a tumbler to use on them so I went to the hobby shop and bought a
$35 rock tumber. Then stainless steel pin shot $60 with burnishing
fluid-soap and water-or whatever you use. It did a beautiful job on
metal and still does. Maybe it doesn’t compare to a vibratory
tumbler, but when you have little money it will do the job and it
only takes a couple of hours, not days. However if you put rocks in
it–yeah it takes days. It works great for me until I have the
enormous amounts of money they want for a good one.
