Used Sparkie II?

Hi Folks, Just a shot in the dark… but does anyone have a Sparkie
II fusion welder, sitting around unused, which with they would be
willing to part? I find myself wishing more frequently that I had
one, but I can’t afford the retail price at this time. I spent an
hour yesterday trying in vain to rebuild a pin catch because I can’t
solder a new one on with the gemstones set. A Sparkie would make
short work of fusing a new one on!

Any leads are appreciated!

I seem to remember that Triad (Royal Findings) sometimes has used
Sparkies available. They are distributors for Sparkies.

Rio Grande sold me a demo they used for a tool show one time and I
saved quite a bit of money…they have a division that handles the
used tools…and right after Tucson they may have something…just
an idea

Brent, I bought a used Sparkie II, so they are out there. However,
I need to spend some time with it to figure out why nothing is
staying on. I enamel, so that was my initial reason for purchase.
If you choose to put the findings on the piece to be enameled,
soldering them on has to be done first. By the time you are
finished exposing the piece to multiple heatings & cleanings, the
solder breaks down and you know the rest. Some solder late in the
enamel process, but it usually requires you to repair your enamel.
So, a Sparkie sounded like a dream. Maybe it will be once I spend
more time practicing?

Hi Eileen,

Could be that you need more power. There is a supplemental power
pack you can purchase to boost the power for larger pieces of
jewelry. Check the catalog from any vendor who carries the welder. If
memory serves me, it runs about US$150.

All the best,

Dave
