Fellow Orchidians, Do any of you know of an online clearinghouse for
used jewelry and lapidary equipment? If not, is there an interest
in one (I might be interested in setting one up)?
I ask because it’s pretty “spotty” finding and verifying the
authenticity of equipment on eBay, where it seems the sellers
frequently know next to nothing about what they’re selling (i.e.,
someone auctioning off dearly departed Uncle Joe’s jewelry stuff),
and I never see the things I’m looking for listed… higher-ticket
items like rolling mills, casting equipment, etc.
I was NOT initially thinking of this as a clearinghouse for stones
and raw materials … those seem to be easily available online. But
what do you think about that, too?
Am I missing it entirely? Or doesn’t it exist?
Thanks,
Karen Goeller

Hi Karen, The most reliable and consistent mechanism of this sort
I’ve discovered is the classified advertisements on rockhounds.com,
or Bob’s Rock Shop (online). Its heavily skewed toward lapidary
equipment, as you might expect, but jewelry equipment is not out of
the question. Posting a “wanted” ad has worked effectively for me in
the past.

I think the field would benefit from a jewelry equipment exchange
Web site or service!
All the best,

Karen, Try Bob’s Rock Shop at www.rockhounds.com They have a
classified ad section that has lots of machinery for sale or trade.
Cheers from Don at the Charles Belle Studio in SOFL where simple
elegance IS fine jewelry! @coralnut1
