Upcoming SNAG conference

HI Sarah and all,

I’m more or less like you and consider myself as an "emerging"
artist although I’m in my fifties. I’m working towards a degree in
fine arts/jewelry design. I hesitated last year, asked the same
question on the Orchid forum and finally went to SNAG and I can only
say: DO IT! Bring the few pictures you have (sign up for a portfolio
review). I got really good feedback. The workshops are great and
very inspiring. The lectures were awesome (I’m more interested in
art jewelry but there were also bench jewellers). Hope to see you
there!

Hi Rita (Fishbre?)

I think it is a great idea to organize an Orchid dinner. Maybe you
could get some advice from Joel Schwalb (joel4@optonline.net) who
did a marvellous job last year in organizing it or from any other
Orchidians … Be sure to pick a night when there are no other events
planned

Good luck, see you there,
Linda

This year 3M is sponsoring bench demonstrations as well as other
presentations throughout the conference. The theme of the conference
is “Intersection,” to look at jewelry, metalsmithing and enameling
with industrial design, fashion and the fine arts.

The range of topics includes industrial design, public art, hip hop
jewelry, ornamental iron works, and contemporary enamel, as well as
some of the more “academic” talks, such as the blurring of lines
between disciplines. There will also be a lively panel dialogue
addressing the issues that consistently pop up between makers and
educators.

For the complete schedule, go to
http://www.snagmetalsmith.org/Documents/ClevelandSchedule2005.xls

If you are or become a member, you get a $70 discount off the
conference registration fee. This means if you are coming to the
conference, your membership has just paid for itself.

I’m admittedly biased, but SNAG conferences really are fantastic.
