Up close (220x power) wax-setting

In the following photographs, you will just how the “Injection-Wax” is ‘holding’ each stone. Not always will you see how a detailed cz is sitting. But to be aware of this, is worth 1,000 words. What I do, is to ‘warm up’ EACH stone as it is being held into place, the ‘semi-liquid wax’ is then displaced &

will navigate itself around the girdle of the stone. This 'displaced wax is basically what is holding each stone. The ‘warmed’ stone will find it’s “point of least resistance” & settle into a space that is allocated for that specific stone. Remember to keep the stone slightly warm, not blazing hot!!! If it is HOT it will sink below the area required!
I suggest experimenting with different degrees of “Warm => Hot”. I use “EXTRA HOT” to clean off the wax-pen tip, wax-residue is not a happy friend to any stone as this will be metal afterwards!

Very cool. So you are just touching the wax pen to the top of the cz to transmit a bit of heat to the wax setting?
As always, thanks for sharing your years of wisdom & experience!!

My answer to you is: “…just barely touching the stone, & if so, just
enough contact until you actually see the wax slowly melt like water
underneath!!”. Even the ‘heated-air’ of the tip of the pen will can
sometimes heat the stone!

  • Don’t touch the wax, least you could destroy your wax-form!!! Please
experiment first on a not needed wax-form to prevent any unforeseen
    problems!!!*

Eileen & everyone!
I’m going to be making more worthwhile comments to many of the questions &
requests of setting information. I have now a little line-up of requests to
now reply to. With the beginning of our Passover, I’ll try to get to them
as fast as I can…:>)
