Ultrasonic baskets

I make a wiggly wire which is suspended from one side of the top of
the bowl bending under the solution and hooked on to the other side
or corner.

iI can suspend about 12 rings or items from the wiggles. Make sure
the items do not touch each other, the bottom or the sides. I have
various other gadgets for ear studs etc.

I use a tea strainer only for vibrating / cleaning diamonds.

Has anyone tried the stuller basket 23-2000

Amen to keeping the liquid level up. Lets the transducers work at
optimum and the heaters as well. Plastic bags or “beer cup” beakers
will attenuate the ultrasonic action to a degree. If the unit is in
good condition and the liquid level is maintained just increase the
run time for a additional minute or two and that should solve the
problem. I mentioned “beer cups” as a substitute for glass beakers
as they work very well, are not subject to breaking and are
"inexpensive".

I use large plastic coated paper clips bent however I need them
suspended from a wire across my tank with a V bent into the wire
every half inch. this keeps the pieces from sliding on the wire.
cheap and very effective. I use 12 gage bronze wire. But any wire
will work. just happen to have a lot of bronze wire laying around.

This is the reason I make my own ultrasonic hanger thing.

These hooks are huge! They may work for a ring, but for most
anything else they’re too damned thick.

BTW, that plastic coating is available at Home Depot. It’s for
coating tool handles and you can thin it with gasoline (petrol).

Those colorful, plastic coated paper clips are good for hanging the
odd object with small holes off the rack in the sonic. Just unfold
and shape as needed.

I’ve been using one for years. Not the same one mind you, but the
same style. They eventually get a hole in the mesh and I need to
replace it. They work great.

Will the solution be hot enough to do the best job if you can’t put
the lid on the top to hold the heat in? My assumption is that the
glass jars would be higher than the top of the unit when you set
them in the basket. thus making lid use impossible. still learning.
appreciate all the info on this thread.

Many Thanks. Pat Klein

Hello Pat,

I use a glass container that has a fitted lid, but it is not in
place when the 'sonic is in use. The lid would jiggle. The lid
retards evaporation. My 'sonic is heated only when in use, so if I
want to heat things up quickly, I put the glass container with
cleaning solution into the microwave and 'nuke it.

BTW, the liquid in the 'sonic is water with a drop or two of dish
detergent. A past Orchid posting on 'sonic use advocated the
addition of detergent - something about improved cavitation as I
recall. Try a search of the archives.

Thank you for the moisture; please send more.

When your ultrasonic is sitting idle, with nothing in it, it won’t be
vibrating but will have the heat on so it’s ready to use. That’s when
it’s a good idea to keep the lid on, primarily to help prevent
evaporation. But when you have racks or baskets in it with the sonic
working cleaning your work, the lid can just be cumbersome, and as
you said impossible with beakers, so the lid is often not used. The
fact that the liquid in the sonic is warm is enough to help the
cleaning action work. It’s not critical that it remains at a
particular temperature, it’s just that warm works better than cold.
So the lid is not a critical component, it just keeps you from having
to add water to replace what has evaporated. Hope that helps.

I never use a lid.

But I have a sink with hot water right next to the ultrasonic (and
GFI outlets nearby).
