Turntable!

I’m learning to engrave and it’s a bit difficult chasing my cuts around under the scope without a turntable. I cobbled this together out of some scrap plate steel I had around, a piece of walnut and a bearing. I got off of eBay. Works great!

An engraver’s ball should have the swivel built in. The top half should spin while the bottom half is stationary. Is yours not built that way?

It does swivel but there’s a limit to how much you can keep centered under the scope when engraving. The turntable allows one to move the center of rotation around so you can stay in an area while cutting and it doesn’t leave the scopes view. It’s very common for any sort of gun, knife or larger than a ring engraving.

Hi,

At the GRS training center we used the Satellite stand with turntable…it had concentric circles marked on it, and was used with a “centering” post…which made it easy to get set up for centered working…

maybe mark your turntable with concentric circles and make a centering rod

Great idea. I put a chapstick in the middle last night and centered on the blurry change of color but a post is a great idea! Thank you.

Looks great! I much prefer DIY over supporting the online capitalist thieves with their throw away junk. You’re looks solid and will last you a lifetime. I’ve made a few turn tables myself from scrap lumber I had laying around. Well done!

Hi,
i think their post has a pin that fits in a hole in the center of their turntable…so one can move the turntable around when centering and the post stays standing…

Thank you!!

That’s smart. I could drill out the bolts connected with and put a pin in that. Clever

I took it apart and put it on a stand. Now I can get right up on it and it’s able to be lower than it would be on the desk.

Gotta find a 14” cake pan and install it to catch the gold and silver bits next.

What a great idea!

Hello Orchidland,
For those looking for an inexpensive turntable - Aldi has a rotating wooden tray for $13. At least our store had several in stock last week. May be gone by now, but worth checking.
Judy in Kansas, where March winds keep blowing the furniture on the balcony around!

Judy…I looked at one there on Saturday in our local Aldi. The one that I saw was fairly large…Rob
