Tumbling problem

Oops!! Help. I left my gold charms in tumbler too long and they have
taken on a grey tone! Are there any tips to remove this with ease??
Thanks in advance!!!

Sara

Hello Sara,

If I had this problem, I would first put one charm into my vibratory
tumbler with dry polishing walnut shell. If that was unsuccessful,
I’d try soaking one charm in hot pickle. If that did not help, then I
would gently heat one with a torch, and then put it into hot pickle.
Last resort (if the charms are only gold) I’d soak a charm in sodium
hydroxide - the drain cleaner.

Wonder what marvelous ideas will come from the Kingdom of Orchid,
Judy in Kansas, where yet another winter storm is bringing more
snow. Oh well, we need the moisture.

Fret not - you just ran out of cleaning stuff. maybe too little
liquid.

It’s an easy fix. Just drain and rinse the tumbler contents, all of
it, including the charms. Then run 30 minutes with flat regular coke
or vinegar and water or a teaspoon of citric acid powder and water.

Drain, rinse, and you will have clean media and charms. Rinse the
tumbler extra well, and dry.

We all forget - and the cleaning stuff will eventually break down
and leave black goo or grey scum.
