Tucson Retrospective

All,

Yesterday I was visited by a Chinese dealer who had participated in
four venues in Tucson. He claimed that his company lost thirty
thousand dollars this year. He cited poor sales and heavy expenses as
being the cause. More specifically he noted the fact that the motels
this year were really gouging and that his company was considering
purchasing a home there so that expenses could be mitigated. This
latter consideration is intrigueing. It could be that if one were to
purchase a residence and then have it managed by a property
management firm that it could effectively pay for itself while
providing accomodations for staff during the show season.
Furthermore, with real estate prices appreciating as they have been,
there would ultimately be an appreciation payoff. Extending this
logic a bit further, maybe there is an opportunity for establishing a
company that manages real estate in the Tucson area and which
specializes in vacation rentals and showtime rentals. I can think of
other extensions of this logic and so might you all…

Hello Orchidland,

Those of us who live in university communities see this as standard
procedure for families who send their child/ren to school. The kids
live in the house while attending the school and even sublet a couple
bedrooms to offset utilites, taxes, etc. The newest wrinkle is a
developer building apartments for out-of-town folks who come to the 6
or 7 home football games each year!! Yup. They have a place to stay
without price-gouging or parking problems. I don’t think it will fly,
but, who knows… Judy in Kansas
