Annette is right–and a “plain manicure” should never include tips,
etc. I actually considered “tipping” my thumbnails, because my nails
are so soft and I really need them for my jewelry work, but my
manicurist said the tips are so thick that I would loose some of my
sense of touch. She recommended a regular application of Hard As
Nails (from the drugstore). You really don’t need long nails to look
elegant and it’s perfectly acceptable to polish short ones. Just go
for very subtle or bright red (the retro look).
